Government helium sales to commercial users are projected to exceed one million cubic feet monthly in fiscal year 1947, the highest industrial volume yet. The Bureau of Mines notes four plants near Amarillo with 250 million cubic feet annual capacity, and October saw a new private-use sales record of 1,367,880 cubic feet. Helium welding improvements and peacetime uses, including decommissioned Navy blimps repurposed for advertising, drive growing demand.
