Four convicts remain at large after thirteen escaped Wynne Prison Farm inmates used sawed bars and sheets to flee yesterday. Seven were recaptured by midnight and police later seized Tucker and others. several included Willard Scott, William B Cummings, and Joseph R Tucker, with sentences ranging from two to life. At least four remain free and credits describe bloodhounds and guards pursuing leads.
Eddie Gilmore reports from somewhere in Russia on dec29 a group of workers in a railway repair shop building an armored train for the war effort. The 100 ton locomotive, four armored cars, gun torrents and mortars reflect Bolshvik era inspiration and scrapped locomotive parts. The crew claim the machine can reach 45 miles an hour and is a striking sight. The commander operates a super torrent with four communications links to the engineer as army officers praise the gift and consider naming a worker as engineer. The engineer jokes about forward motion until Berlin and reverse authority.
Dallas report from the American Association for the Advancement of Science describes experiments by Clyde Keeler and Helen King at the Wistar Institute showing white rats tame and gray rats vicious due to a gene controlling black hair. The study notes humans may share color linked traits, but cautions human conduct involves many factors and inbreeding is not recognized.

Barkdoli India December 30 Gandhi, longtime leader of the independence movement, was relieved today of his leadership of the All-India Congress party at his own request. He will retain his freedom to oppose all violence and could not align with the majority of the party's executive committee in backing Britain's war effort.

London reports eleven dead and about one hundred injured after a collision of two trains at Eccles Lancashire. The accident sent shock through the Lancashire area as emergency crews worked to rescue passengers and assess the scene.

BELLEVILLE N J Dec 30 The Bickells at breakfast near an air field in Honolulu as bombs began exploding on December 7 1941 Lieutenant George R Bickell Nutley shouted Get out as his wife Peggy recalled on return from Hawaii They watched him shot down into the sea then swim 200 yards to shore resume air battle The family fled in a car then on foot bullets pierced the windshield and fenders At the airfield the husband ran to his plane and did not say goodbye, angering him as what he said would be unprintable.
Army recruiters faced early month bookkeeping bottlenecks that halted shipments to reception centers. Despite this, Foster Watkins and Arthur Childress from Memphis funded their own trips to Lubbock, proving their eagerness to enlist. Eight men were accepted by the army this morning, with four by the navy and a couple by the marines. Set. F. M. Bell can rejoin at his former rank if not out of service over four years. Gerald G. Elder from Crosbyton opted for California enlistment in the thick of things. George C. Snider Jr. of Pampa shipped to Dallas for navy processing.

Telegram from Monett Missouri confirms the death of Officer Frank Rosy King's father. Funeral services planned in Monett tomorrow as King nears a promotion to supervise parking meters in Amarillo.
British and Chinese officers led by the famed one legged Cantonese admiral Chan Chak escaped from Hong Kong on Christmas Day in motor torpedo boats through the Japanese blockade. One torpedo boat was sunk with 16 lost. Chan Chak suffered an arm wound and swam ashore. D M Mac Douglas Hong Kong information chief and two lieutenant commanders plus two RAF wing commanders were among survivors. The group is believed to be in Kwangtung province.
Dallas reports startling 1939 Antarctic expedition readings from Little America. A 0.5 mile span showed 67.5 below at one point and 100 below at another. For six hours winds were around 50 mph. In eight days a minimum of 76 below zero was observed with an average of 63.4 below. Only once did it reach 50 below.Shanghai's fuel shortage is serious.
Mrs S P Maness was guest of honor at the North Amari Kiwanis Club meeting held on M P Maness Recognition Day. She recently gave the club a life sized pencil drawing of Will Rogers and received a large set of oil paints in appreciation. Rev Lloyd Jones presided and introduced her. New club officers will be installed Tuesday at the Horeace Mann School annual installation party.
Former Col Charles A Lindbergh has volunteered his services to the United States Army Air Forces after resigning from the air corps reserve last April He offered his help in a letter to Lieutenant General Henry H Arnold chief of the air force Arnold confirmed the offer saying Lindbergh expressed a deep desire to aid the country in the fields where he trained for many years No action was indicated on the offer
