Texas retailers report strong Christmas sales across state

An Associated Press survey shows Texas merchants enjoying a robust 1940 to 1941 holiday season. Gains ranged from 5 to 20 percent nationally with many cities posting double digits. Prison break frees 13 convicts from Wynne Prison Farm

The forecast notes considerable cloudiness this afternoon and tonight with a high of 43 and a low near 31 in Amarillo. West Texas expects partly cloudy skies with little temperature change, while New Mexico reports partly to cloudy conditions with occasional mountain snow and little change in temperature. Temperature extremes over 24 hours show a minimum of 27 and a maximum of 43, with noon readings incomplete.
