Charity Dance Raises About 285 At Polk Street Event

A three hundred person charity marathon at 911 Polk Street collected 285.85 in cash and numerous clothing items for the Salvation Army. The give-what-you-please event ran from midnight Saturday to Sunday with no gate and no admission. Several thousand attended. six couples and one solo dancer remained on the floor as the marathon passed the 426 hour mark toward a 1000 prize.

Bond Set At $10 000 In Death Of His Sweetheart

Robert L. Williams an 18 year old University of Texas sophomore was held on murder charges after the death of his sweetheart Elizabeth Johnson 17 at a church area in Port Arthur. Williams bonded for grand jury appearance. Witnesses claim a gun was placed in a wall pocket of his sedan before Miss Johnson was found dead. Williams is represented by his brother Paul Williams Dallas attorney. His father Rev S W Williams pastor of an Austin Texas Methodist church comforted him in jail. Williams is nephew of federal judge R I Williams Oklahoma City. The gun was found in the car and Williams spent last night at EF P Bakers home a prominent church member.
