Five injured as UP passenger trains collide near Gorham

Five persons were injured, several seriously, when two Union Pacific passenger trains collided head on at a siding east of Gorham Kansas near an oil refinery. The locomotives of eastbound train No 128 and westbound No 121 derailed and the injured were taken to Hays Kansas for treatment.

Burglars Loot Blackburn Brothers Store Through Ceiling

Thieves used a brace and bit to bore through the ceiling of the Blackburn Brothers clothing store at Seventh Avenue and Polk Street, taking more than 20 suits from one showcase and all available silk pajamas. Detectives Holloway and Scott said progress is limited as clerks found the scene at 7:30 this morning and the total value exceeds $1,000.

Texas Train Fails To Stop At Crossing At Avondale

A Texas & Pacific train from Shreveport failed to stop at Avondale crossing and struck the Southern Pacific Texas limited locomotive. Fireman B L Pittman was pinned under his engine and believed dead. Engineer Mike Foster was scalded and rushed to a New Orleans hospital in serious condition.

W M Roberts sues Western Packing Company and Western Stockyards Company for 27200 dollars in district court for alleged breach of agreement leading to business ruin in Amarillo. He claims 22200 dollars actual damages and 5000 dollars extra for breach. Meanwhile the Italian steamship Maria Luisa sank off the Egyptian coast after abandoning ship with three nearby vessels rushing to aid the crew. The Maria Luisa was reported at 30.25 N 80.50 E in a Lloyds message.

City pays off month early for Christmas

City employees received their January 1 pay checks last Saturday as a Christmas present to relieve Yule pressure on pocketbooks. City Manager W. N. Durham announced the early payment, noting the move was intended to ease financial strain for workers.

Two pilots reach immediate territory in search for lost airman

Seattle reports Joe Crosson and Harold Gillam reached the ice bound Nanuk near North Cape Siberia establishing a base for flights to search for Carl Ben Eielson and mechanic Harl Borland. They took off from Teller Alaska on Friday overcoming poor flying conditions.

Standard Oil Company of New York announces acquisition of White Eagle Oil and Refining Company, based in Kansas City with holdings across the Southwest. A new 100 percent Standard Oil owned company will be formed, continuing operations in White Eagle territory with 8.5 Standard shares for each 10 White Eagle shares. Directors J. L. Marcell and R. R. Laredo Expects Customs Shift Under New Law

Laredo businessmen welcomed January effective Mexican customs law moving exports from the consulate to the customs house. The 10 percent consular fee ends, and officials may handle passport visas and pre-export handling. Monthly, about $3 million in American goods passed the consulate with a $300,000 fee. City officials report no definite date from Chicago offices of Rock Island for talks on West Third Avenue underpass. H P Greenough, division superintendent in Dalhart, said an assistant engineer would meet the city this week to arrange construction. Woman Chokes Mate To Death And Takes Him To Hospital

In Tulsa on December 23 Blanche Oxgood, 27, fatally choked her husband Sam Osgood by twisting his collar then accompanied the body to a hospital where she was arrested. She said the marriage at Coffeyville seven years ago and daily beatings led to self defense. Police largely believed her account as visible injuries matched the claim.

Texas Snow Keeps Texas Cold. Sunshine Expected

Moderating temperatures were forecast to end the snow that hit Central and South Texas on Saturday. Reports from Hillsboro and Corsicana noted record snowfalls while Junction and Kimble County recorded sub zero readings. Plano Boerne Comfort and Kerrville also dipped below zero as the Panhandle and North Texas saw less severe cold. Nacogdoches logged 7 degrees the coldest since 1895. Eleven Firemen Jump From Theater After Boiler Blast

In Harvey Illinois eleven firemen leaped from the Garden theater roof when a boiler explosion caused over 100000 dollars in damage. James Reed was hospitalized with multiple fractures including leg arm and five ribs. The remaining firemen escaped unharmed.

Tragic Christmas Family Auto Crash Claims Two Women

Abilene Texas December 23 A family en route to a reunion suffered a fatal crash near Abilene when 68 year old Mrs A M Jones of Wellington was killed and six others were badly hurt including her daughter in law Mrs King Janes and four children. King Jones driving tried to pass another car and locked wheels causing the truck to run off the road. Two children were believed to be among the injured with possible internal injuries.

Fire destroys three Liberty area shops in Dayton blaze

A gan store sparked a Saturday night fire that wiped out a jewelry store a dry goods shop and a barber shop at Dayton six miles west of Liberty Texas. The loss was about $10 000 and the blaze endangered the entire business district for a time.
