Indirect Control of Grain Prices Implemented as Defense Move

The Commodity Credit Corporation holds about 170 million bushels of old wheat and nearly the same corn for sale plus loans on 350 million bushels of wheat and 200 million corn. Old wheat is about 1.30 a bushel and old No 2 corn about 82% a bushel in Chicago. Traders note prices remain within a narrow range and future markets may be superfluous if this line continues.
