F H Cheley head of Cheleys Camps Estes Park Colo died suddenly of heart attack at his Denver home aged 56. His camp opened in 1927 and has hosted Amarillo and Panhandle youths for decades. Funeral plans not announced. private services planned in Denver.
Rear Admiral Jacobs, then serving with the Atlantic fleet, was nominated by President Roosevelt to become the chief of the navy department bureau of navigation for a four year term. He would replace Rear Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, reassigned to Pacific fleet command in a surprise shake up of Hawaii commands amid the Japanese outbreak.
The body of C. O. Mathews who died in Washington Monday will arrive in Amarillo tonight and lie in state at the N. S. Griggs and Sons chapel as funeral arrangements are completed. Survivors include wife two sons and two daughters led by Mrs Marion Bruce of Bushland and Mrs Merlin McLaughlin of Denver.
