Six Survivors Tap Message Asking Oxygen

The Sagamore towing three pontoons left Cape Cod canal at 11 a m to raise the sinking submarine S 4 where six men are believed alive in the forward torpedo room at Provincetown Massachusetts Naval experts say survival beyond 48 hours is unlikely unless air is forced down. The rescue fleet faced a furious gale with 45 mph winds and ice covered decks delaying operations and hindering divers platform deployment as the sea roared and the crew battled freezing spray.

Spirit of California Fliers Push For Endurance Record

San Francisco December reports that the Spirit of California has flown over the bay area for more than 24 hours with its three motors in sync. Capt Charles Kingsford Smith and Lieut George Pond took off from Millsfield airport to beat the world endurance mark. Doubt arose when a message at 7:25 a.m. noted concerns about fuel but indicated the crew would stay aloft as long as gas held.

Train Wreck Damages Cars In Texas Yard Collision

Four injured as two Texas & Pacific passenger trains collide head on in Big Spring yards. West bound No. 5 led by engineer Charles Ruprup and east bound Sunshine Special led by engineer A. L. Leach. Mail and baggage cars telescoped, engines and cars badly damaged. A waiter in the dining car severely scalded.

Banker Slain and Robbers Get Over $6,000

In St Louis on December 19, five robbers held up assistants John W Hopson and John G McCool three blocks from Hodiamont Bank. Hopson was shot and killed while McCool was wounded. the gang escaped with $6,100. They were transporting funds from University City Bank to Hodiamont Bank.

State's Attorney Seeks Continuance in Murder Case

Six hundred Chinese Communists Executed in Canton

Canton reports that six hundred Chinese suspected of communism were executed in one group to curb underground Soviet activity. The Soviet vice-consul was also executed, according to official foreign reports.

Pampa Blast Fatal to Driller at Gas Station

One man was killed and five cars destroyed when two dust collectors exploded at Empire Gas and Fuel company station near Pampa. F. L. Bristow of Hillsboro, a driller, was killed by a steel plate hurled by the blast. Two workmen were bruised and escaping gas ignited, causing the autos to burn. The disaster is blamed on high pressure in the gathering system where a faulty gauge failed to show rising pressure.

Borger Man Is Slain in Early Morning Shooting

In Borger a night watchman Harry Dodd was killed and Louis Crim wounded four times after a confrontation near Main Street at 2:30 a m Crim was arrested by Deputy Constable White and his wife witnessed the shooting Crim survived with injuries and Dodd died shortly after at a local hospital

King Ben Purnell death ends rule of David sect

Detroit reports the death of Benjamin Purnell known as King Ben, ruler of his own religious colony. He died at 11 36 Friday morning after a life as a farm boy turned itinerant preacher and founder of a cult. Followers await signs of rising Christ, delaying funeral rites. Born March 27 1861 in Kentucky, his life included two marriages and a long history of dissension and legal action within his movement.

Frantic suspect in Marian Parker murder case

A frenzied woman Lillian Padley 23 and a man named William Long were held after a raid on a house connected to the Marian Parker kidnapping and slaying. The girl’s father Perry Parker had paid $1500 to abductors and found only her torn body. The woman shouted I didn’t kill her as police moved in. Long was released after questioning. Gaylord Barnaman 24 was arrested nearby as investigators pursued leads.
