Funeral services for Helen Joyce Reid six month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Percy Reid were held this afternoon from the Blackburn Shaw Chapel with Rev J C Sizemore of Buchanan Baptist Church officiating Pallbearers were J W Drake L A Nunn FE L Pinkley and J P Sizemore Besides the parents she is survived by two sisters Betty Jo and Billy Jean two brothers Percy Jr and James Arthur and three grandparents Mr and Mrs A L Thornton of Amarillo and J D Reid of Fort Worth Burial is in Llano Cemetery
Crown Princess Juliana of the Netherlands arrives in Washington aboard a train from Ottawa with Baron De Vos and his wife. She will be hosted at the White House by President and Mrs. Roosevelt, attend a luncheon, visit Mount Vernon, and join a symphony concert in the first lady’s company.
Postmaster W. D. DeGrassi set up women only tables in the postoffice lobby for addressing Christmas cards and packages. He noted a surge in early mailing and cited a woman addressing about 100 envelopes. Postal workers sought aspirin for ragged nerves amid the rush.
Adolf Hitler spoke to about 5 000 cadets at the Berlin Sports Palace. The meeting was closed and the remarks were not published, but the official news agency said he delivered an inspiring address to prepare them as leaders of the National Socialist Army. Field Marshal Walther von Bruchitsch also spoke.
Miss Pauline Thackeray suffered a brain concussion and scalp wounds when a ceiling light fell at Lady's Cafeteria on Polk Street yesterday. Her companion Mrs. Doris Burke was lightly injured and taken to St. Anthony's Hospital. The fixture was jarred loose by workers in the vacant office upstairs.
Funeral services for Max Wilson 35 formerly of Amarillo, now deceased in Raton New Mexico, will be held tomorrow at 10 from Blackburn-Shaw Chapel. A Church of Christ Scientist reader will officiate. He lived in Amarillo until a month ago and worked with the Pueblo Courts. Survived by his wife and brother Ben Wilson of Clayton Tennessee. Burial in Llano Cemetery.
Private William Hawley of Montrose Pennsylvania, 6 feet 3 inches tall, reported to Fort Dix New Jersey after enlisting six weeks ago at 162 pounds. He now weighs 212 pounds and serves as cook in the first signal depot company.
British forces report ongoing actions in the Derna Tobruk corridor and Bardia area as RAF planes press attacks despite heavy desert rains. Italian retreating troops are engaged on the coastal road, and Derna remains a focal point of the Libyan campaign with naval bases under emphasis.
British forces push toward Bardia after capturing Forts Musaid Sidi Omar and Sheferhton, clearing a path for assault. Italian losses include motor transport stores. Rome confirms British warships shelling Bardia while raids on El Uak yield 50 killed and 120 prisoners. South African and East African troops execute a raid on El Uak with 15 guns and material seized.
British reports say fighting has reached the Bardia area with roads to Tobruk within artillery reach. The 62nd Italian division was trapped after fleeing from Egypt, with the 63rd division and other units abandoning heavy materiel on the Egyptian sands.
