Annual flood of letters to Santa begins
Washington dispatch notes a large packet of Christmas mail arriving at the local post office. Children write in varied scripts and homemade envelopes, some with no stamps, all urging Santa to bring games, toys, pens, and candy. One boy simply drew a stamp and Santa’s image, leaving the rest to Santa’s imagination. Postmaster General Brown has au- thority over postal matters.

Authorized officials sent Santa Claus letters to the dead-letter office after no requests were received at the local post office last year. It is believed Santa arrived at most of the homes anyway, despite the clerical move.
