Texas bank innocent victim in $81000 paper deal
S B Jones a 47 year old Hearne insurance man was arrested in Mexico and brought to Texas after check manipulations merged the First State Bank of Franklin with the First National Bank here. Jones is charged with forging a note. Worthless checks totaling $81000 were passed to the bank but depositors will not lose money. Jones implicated eight or so others known to have knowledge of the transaction.

Attacked by Girls Jail Matron Dies in Dallas
In Dallas County jail a 59 year old matron Mrs Cassie Chandler dies after being attacked by two girls aged 15 and 17 during an attempted jailbreak on the fourth floor. The 17 year old signed a statement admitting both grabbed Mrs Chandler while one held each arm. She died at Parkland Hospital after suffering a head injury and a tentative cause listed as a broken blood vessel in the brain. An autopsy was ordered and charges against the juveniles awaited results.

Two Hitchhiking Sailors Hijacked in New Mexico Robbery
George L. Thomas and Lloyd Hester face district attorney charges of robbery by assault after police stopped them in the 2500 block on North Fillmore. They allegedly held a knife to a hitchhiking sailor, taking $2 and clothing. The victim James C. Park Jr. reported the hijack from San Diego on a 30 day leave. North Amarillo saw four business burglaries last night with loot exceeding $100. At Rietman Lumber and Hardware Company 1400 North East Eighth burglars smashed a window and seized rifles and ammunition. The Bob White Drive-In at 1104 North East Eighth lost gum candy cigars and about $3 in pennies after a rear window break in. Jones Cafe 605 North Fillmore reported only a few pennies missing. Headquarters Drive-In 400 North Fillmore was entered with nothing taken.

Report Judge Riggs Holding Own After Exposure Incident
Former Potter County Judge J N Riggs aged 70 remained in serious condition at Northwest Texas Hospital noon today. Attending physician said he runs above normal temperature, a common response to exposure, after an estimated 48 hours missing ordeal. He was found by Range Riders at 10 45 Tuesday morning in a Johnson grass field near River Road School.
