The negro and family fled as bullets shattered the house furniture was torn up and bedding tossed into a well. The raid allegedly followed by a white man seeking to take over the farm.
City commissioners awarded bids for Amarillo Municipal airport work including a 3.5 mile cedar post fence with mesh wire and barbed top. Frank Lofer won the well drilling bid at 310 dollars. Morrow-Thomas Hardware supplies gas pipe. Amarillo Construction wins crushed stone for field. inlayed name of Amarillo Airport planned.
The Golden Sandstorm football season ends after a 21 26 defeat at Abilene. Officials and coaches Russell T Smith and Marshall May sought a post season game with Texas Oklahoma or New Mexico Military Institute but none could attend in Amarillo. Two motorcar gangs robbed a First National payroll truck in Yonkers, wounding guard Adolph Kanter and Patrolman Patrick O Keefe. The armored truck carried about $100 000 in cash, bandits escaped in a pair of cars after firing on the crew and forcing the milk wagon to stop.
More than 20 motorists were fined in city court this morning with doubled fines for second offenses. Police Judge 8S. D. Riding warned fines will stay heavy until traffic conditions improve. The commission backs the effort to enforce careful driving in Amarillo, with two extra motorcycle patrolmen added.
