Iranian government troops moved into Azerbaijan but were checked when rebels blew a bridge at a mountain pass entrance. Initial casualties reported light as Azerbaijan Democrats leader Jafa Pishevari urged actions over radio from Tabriz.
A fire of undetermined origin forced 150 guests to flee three floors of the 27 story Lincoln Hotel in New York. The blaze started in an occupied room, gutted the room's interior and sent heavy smoke through nearby rooms early today.
Longview reports a dawn explosion tore out 30 feet of pipe about a mile from the city, halting gas supply from the Carthage Field to the Big Inch pipeline. Williams Bros. Inc. supervisor H. M. McDonald said they were pressurizing to purge the feeder line and Big Inch when the blast occurred. the pipe was a fairly new installation.
A large crew works on new pipe as service may resume this afternoon near Longview after a blast felt two miles away. Residents reported escaping gas for 15 minutes sounding like a racing freight train. Gas pressure has not yet been halted and no injuries were reported. The scene lies about a mile and a half from Longview.
A Slick Airways cargo plane skidded off a Love Field runway in Dallas due to slick conditions from rain and fog, blocking Lemmon Avenue for hours with no injuries reported. Tornado sightings in East Texas were brief, and rainfall varied citywide from Fort Worth to Paris with totals up to 1.82 inches in some areas.
W. T. Bill Walker known as Bill among tanbark circle died suddenly at St. Anthony's Hospital after a stroke. He was 52, lived at 1119 Polk, and had been active in the Amarillo Horse Show, serving as its manager for two years. Survivor includes wife Vera Walker and several siblings. Funeral plans pending.
Georgia Attorney General Eugene Cook announced confessions tying the Columbians, Inc. to a Nazi modeled scheme to overthrow the government with arms smuggled from occupied Germany. A Fulton County grand jury was urged to investigate. Confessions were made in New York City to Prof. James H. Sheldon on December 3 and 4 by James Ralph Childers and Lanier Waller.
Rescuers labored through rock and dirt after a mining collapse trapped John Orekar for over 62 hours at Buckeye Copper Mine in Globe Arizona. Nine others escaped, while John York was saved after a 24 hour dig near the tunnel entrance.

Lawmakers from both parties set March 31 as the deadline for new labor control measures to avert a possible coal strike. President Truman backs swift action and has Clark M. Clifford drafting recommendations while Republicans push a compulsory arbitration bill to prevent strikes in essential industries.
At the American Academy of Dermatology meeting, Dr. Herbert Rattner linked baldness to a slight edge in manliness, noting androgenic and genetic factors. Dr. A. E. Rakoff cited experiments with female hormones to reverse hair loss, while cautioning effectiveness fades and may affect interest in women.
Nuernberg police report Karl Lechler a 34 year old SS lieutenant colonel and chief of supplies for concentration camps leaped 35 feet from a prison balcony railing in a suicide attempt. Authorities said he was near death with less than a 50 50 chance of living.
In Dallas on University Boulevard a troublesome duck accused of menacing passersby met its end when a firefighter stomped it to stop the attack. Witnesses describe sighs of regret rather than sorrow at the duck’s death.
A flash fire engulfed a wood frame shop at 510 East Ninth in Amarillo, trapping Roy Cook, Lee Weatherly, and Bobby Holman. The blaze gutted the garage, ruined Cook’s 1936 Ford, and forced the three men to improvise an escape as doors stuck and gasoline fumes fueled the flames. Weatherly suspects the open gas stove and stovepipe heater as the likely cause.
The U S 8S Olympus and six ships of Byrd’s Antarctic flotilla left the Panama Canal Zone for a nonstop voyage to Little America. The group will meet other vessels near Scott Island in December and form two flotillas, with the Sennett following Olympus into record cold seas.
The OPA announced likely higher sugar rations early next year. A spare stamp valid for five pounds will be validated January 1 and usable through April 30. A second 1947 consumer stamp is expected to be declared good before the first expires. Industrial and institutional allotments for Q1 1947 remain the same as Q4 1946.

West Texas shows partly cloudy skies with scattered showers outside the Panhandle, cooler tonight with lows 26 to 32, and warmer later in the Panhandle.
