J B Payne vice president of traffic for Texas and Pacific testified at a hearing before Haskell C Davis ICc judge on the plan to build 333 miles of railroad across the Panhandle Plains. He argued the route would open eastern markets to Texas California and other regions, expand grain and livestock trade and provide shorter cheaper hauls. He said the line would not duplicate the Santa Fe north from Sweetwater and would function mainly as an east west link.
Amarillo hosts a grand holiday pageant with thousands of people, including students, preparing for a downtown parade at 1 o clock on December 11. Schools dismiss early as Panhandle retailers decorate streets with Christmas lights, tinsel, and gifts while Mayor Ernest O. Thompson reviews the event. The 30,000 ton first class liners for United States Lines are under construction at New York Shipbuilding Camden. Largest ships yet built in an American yard, they will be launched in 1932. In Kansas City federal court Major Charles A. Shepard faced jury as evidence of his alleged love affair with Grace Brandon was introduced. Flowers and notes from Denver preceded discussions of a murder claim tied to Mrs Shepard's death at Fort Riley. Bert Smith testified officers beat him to sign a confession in an embezzlement case connected to the Stinnett bank robbery. Smith said he knew nothing about the crime and offered his help as a criminal investigator. Witnesses placed Smith in Clarendon during the robbery morning. The defense challenged the confession as coerced. a jeopardy plea looms as the case nears jury deliberation.
A joint Amarillo meeting of extension service agents and District 1 bankers opened at the Amarillo Hotel to promote diversified farm programs. John R. Pemonds introduced the session and Dr W C Dickey led discussions with county reports detailing past year farming progress and future growth plans.
C Pinckney McCarver Jr of New York travels to Amarillo to investigate the death of his brother Brunson McCarver killed in a gun battle with Randall County officers four miles north of Canyon. The slain man, a former narcotics agent, was son of Nashville’s former mayor J. Pinckney McCarver Sr. and brother-in-law of late Judge D B Puryear. The body will be sent to Nashville for burial.

Oklahoma Governor Holloway directs Attorney General J Berry King to represent the Corporation Commission in enforcing conservation orders against Century Petroleum Marco Oil and Oila Inc. He authorizes steps to penalties for violations and to defend actions challenging the orders.
Public schools in Amarillo will dismiss Thursday afternoon December 1 to attend the Eria Kringle day parade. The event features educational components with representations of Holland Italy Japan and Eskimos. The parade starts at 1 o clock.
Amarillo police announce deliveries to Polk Street businesses must end by 10 am Thursday to ease the welcome parade for Santa Claus and his reindeer. Motorists are urged to avoid driving downtown and Polk Street will be cleared and kept clear until after the parade to improve viewing for residents and visitors.
Three armed bandits entered the People's Bank of Stanton Tenn just after opening today and robbed the bank of about $10 000 police reported.
Mayor Col Ernest O Thompson announces a hard line crime fight in Amarillo with a 500 member American Legion reserve to back police. All officers to qualify in marksmanship and daily target practice ordered. Citizens urged to cooperate as city seeks to halt an outlawry wave. Page 2 mentions continuation.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirms the three year sentence given former Judge John W. Brady for the killing of Miss Lelna Highamith in Austin on November 10, 1929. Brady may file a rehearing within 15 days and a mandate will then be sent to Dallas for surrender if final.
In Chicago on December 10, Miss Marian Wright an 18 year old social debutante is at the center of an alleged extortion plot. William Kuhn 24 a broker's clerk is accused of sending threatening letters demanding 25000 dollars under death to her or her father. Kuhn denies authorship and a Secret Six probe is cited.
Four unmasked robbers held up the Interstate National Bank in the Livestock Exchange Building Kansas City and escaped with an estimated 50 000 to 55 000 in cash after holding 25 to 30 employees at gunpoint during a one hour delay for the time lock. Austin Young porter and F B Moore assistant cashier were among those forced to cooperate as robbers monitored entry and vault access. The quartet, dressed well and aged about 40 to 80, vanished in a motor car after the heist.
