Paineville Ohio December 9 Velma West a 21 year old woman will be bound over to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing in the hammer murder of her wealthy husband. The case involves a confession and will be heard in PAINESVILLE for the murder.
The forecast calls for a cloudy period tonight and Saturday with a slight rise in temperatures. Averages show today’s highs near 20 and lows around 6, with the record high and low from a year ago at 42 and 27. Hourly readings progress from 26 at 7 am to 54 by 1 pm.
Intimation of a possible bribe to juror Edward Kidwell emerged from Washington as detectives and prosecutors pursued leads connected to the Fall-Sinclair oil case contempt proceedings. Kidwell reportedly supplied evidence of great importance while meetings and sealed discussions followed at the district attorney’s office.
Four men robbed the First National Bank of Larned Kansas obtaining about $20000 and kidnapped cashier Leo Brown and dumped him near Garfield. Four bandits seized roughly $5000 from the First National Bank of Sand Springs Oklahoma. A lone bandit robbed the First State Bank of Inola Oklahoma taking $1000.
In Cincinnati the grand jury considers perjury charges against John Clippinger described as a leading witness for George Remus. Assistant prosecutor Clippinger asked for an indictment as the Remus defense nears its end. A warrant was prepared but not filed and George Klug’s bond as a material witness remains $10,000.
Mrs. Ray Farrier testified as the first witness in the trial of J. F. Williams a well known peace officer charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment. She said Williams grabbed her by the neck drew a pistol and struck her during an attempt to arrest at a city dance hall.
Senator Curtis and Republican independents reached a pact to protect the slender Republican edge in the Senate. The agreement seeks timely votes on key legislation demanded by the independents, with Curtis ensuring no undue delay. Flood control hearings continue as the chamber debates seating the Pennsylvania senator-elect and representative.

In Mays Landing New Jersey on December 9 facing a possible ten years in prison Mrs Margaret Lilliendahl and Willis Beach await sentencing after a jury found voluntary manslaughter in the death of her husband Dr William Lilliendahl. The jury deliberated 23 hours before reaching the verdict with the maximum penalty of ten years and a $1000 fine.
Amarillo advocate A. B. Stinnett urged the house flood control committee to build flood reservoirs on Texas rivers. He said impounded waters would irrigate 500000 acres of arid Texas Panhandle land, boosting regional development and resources and he pressed for irrigation reservoirs as a supplement to flood plans nationwide.
President Coolidge proposed an international civil aviation conference and exhibition to be held in Washington next December in conjunction with the annual commerce department aeronautical conference.
Gray county officers and federal agents arrested four men in Pampa on liquor law violations. They were transported to Amarillo to face federal action. Purcell praised Gray county’s pre arrest work and cooperation in uncovering the organized illegal wholesale and retail liquor operation in the Panhandle oil fields.
United Press reports that the American Legion and its women's auxiliary will hold a nationwide poll on May 15, 1928. Three questions ask whether the eighteenth amendment and Volstead Act should be approved, whether the amendment should continue, and whether light wines and beers with natural alcohol may be allowed. Spafford notes no popular vote has ever approved the prohibition constitution.
Representative McClintock of Oklahoma demanded a House inquiry into charges by Rear Admiral Thomas P. Magruder alleging inefficiency in naval administration. The exchange occurred in Washington on December 9.

Mrs. Gladys Krene Stephenson, 25, wife of J. F. Stephenson, died early today in Amarillo area hospital. Survived by husband, four year old daughter, mother, two sisters and four brothers. Member of Methodist church and Security Benefit association. Body to be taken to Claude this afternoon by N. S. Griggs and Sons. Funeral services set for tomorrow.
Ivan M. Hart on trial for Mabel Marmont Hart's murder described his wife of three weeks begging him to keep a promise to kill her to avoid childbirth. He said she cried for death and insisted he kill her if she became a mother. Doctors called by the defense labeled Hart crazy. The testimony notes Hart attempted suicide after the killing.
