President Coolidge named Albert C. Williams of Fort Worth to the federal farm loan board succeeding Merton L. Corey who has resigned. The nomination was announced in Washington on December 8.
The Panhandle Livestock Producers association schedules its annual convention in Amarillo March 2 to 4 with the Panhandle Hereford Breeders' show and sale. The Hereford auction is Wednesday afternoon March 4. W. M. Gouldy says it will be the largest show and sale yet. Wm. O'Brien is president, Henry G. Harding secretary.
Ten Chinese escaped from the steamship Robert Dollar in Galveston Texas as guards watched over a deportation party of about seventy en route to the far east. Police and immigration officers scoured the city to recapture them.
The Rev. H. J. Matthews, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Plainview, resigns to take a call from the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. The congregation reluctantly accepts the resignation. Matthews also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Wayland College.
Dumas officials report the post office was robbed Saturday night around 9 o'clock. Merchant D E L Ansley says a small amount of money and stamps were taken and letters were scattered through the city. No trace of the robbers has been found.
J J Underwood, representing the Associated American Chambers of Commerce in China, asked Senate Naval Committee Chairman Hale for a tougher American gunboat patrol in Chinese waters. He said piracy kidnapping and murder were rife and aimed at protect Americans building foreign trade in the Far East.

K H J Andrews pastor of St Mark s Episcopal church Plainview Texas died unexpectedly at 9 46 pm from heart disease He had felt ill a day but conducted services yesterday He leaves widow Mrs Wenrie Ila Andrews a father in Twickingham England a sister in New Zealand and a brother in Canada He was born in Portsmouth England 54 years ago and came to the US at 17 He served Episcopal churches in Texas New Mexico Delaware and New Jersey He married Henrietta Calder in Galveston in 1902 and moved to Plainview two years ago He edited North Texas Adventure and contributed poems to national magazines He was a civic worker and youth advocate in Plainview and a noted magazine writer.
Brownsville Texas December 8 The Rio Grande continues to be searched for Albert Hitt fifty four years old formerly of Tulsa Oklahoma who jumped into the river Sunday afternoon along the bank with his wife Ina Belle Nash of Rio Hondo Texas to save him. His wife who jumped in after him failed to reach him and he is believed to have been fatally injured by a fractured skull from a prior automobile accident.
Five robbers entered Northwestern National Bank in Milwaukee on December 8 and held up the cashier. They escaped with about $10,000 in cash and bonds estimated at $300,000.
Chief of Police Clark Cain urged tougher traffic enforcement after recounting an incident on Polk street where a driver at 35 to 40 mph narrowly avoided hitting a woman and two children. He asked Judge Brummett to impose a $100 fine and possible jail time for such speeds and called for redoubled vigilance.

The Dawn is owned by local men affiliated with Ku Klux Klan.

Cattle trades totaling more than 1.9 million dollars have occurred in the Panhandle over the past days. In Dalhart area about 30 000 head of calves yearlings and stock cattle have changed hands in the last month. Amarillo travelers gain direct Dallas service with no Fort Worth change. Fort Worth and Denver leases Rock Island between Fort Worth and Dallas, enabling through trains from Amarillo. The arrangement takes effect January 1.
