In late March 1924 in Washington an elderly Peruvian ambassador and a British envoy arrived to present credentials to President Coolidge, affecting the future deanship. Sir Esme Howard and Dr Herman Velarde, long service figures, faced retirement by 1930 as successors Sir Ronald Lindsay and Manuel Freyre Santander prepared to take posts and possibly the dean’s seat. Fire Wood Auto Test Shows Fuel From Wood Viable
STOCKHOLM December 6 An auto mobile using ordinary fire wood for fuel instead of gasoline was tested by the Swedish army with satisfactory results. A two and a half ton Scania Vabis truck powered by a new gas generator built by Widegren brothers covered 143 miles using about 298 pounds of wood, versus 13 gallons of gasoline for the same distance. The run averaged 20 12 miles per hour, taking seven hours at about 75 cents cost, compared with over four dollars for the same distance in gasoline. The generator aims to allow fuel from wood to be obtained anywhere in Sweden and will also be used on mail and passenger buses from the same maker. The oldest college building at Oklahoma A and M, Old Central, is to be rebuilt.
