Corpus Explosion Kills Two at Hydro Gas Plant

A massive gas explosion at the Hydro Gas Fuel Co in Corpus Christi killed two and injured six. Unofficial damage totaled about 250000 dollars as flames Spread after the blast at 7 32 o clock. The Red Cross moved in to aid the homeless while firefighters battled ruptured gas tanks and shattered windows within a wide quarter mile area.

Trippers Leave Carlsbad for Amarillo on goodwill tour

Two British Soldiers Die In Palestine Explosion

Civilian Production Administrator Quits

President Truman accepted the resignation of John D. Small as head of the Civilian Production Administration effective tomorrow. Remaining CPA functions will transfer to a new government liquidation agency overseeing the Office of Price Administration and other war agencies. Trucker Killed In Flaming Wreck Near Kenna New Mexico

Amarillo man Lee Oldham reported a crash nine miles west of Kenna on Highway 70 in which Don Saar of Oklahoma City died. The jack-knifed truck carrying 22 000 pounds of meat burst into flames after leaving the road. State trooper Gene Smith identified Saar and noted the wreck occurred about 6 30 this morning near Kenna, about 60 miles northeast of Roswell.

Oakland Strike Is Called Off

Oakland and AFL leaders reached an agreement to end a general strike that crippled East Bay commerce for two days. City officials will stay neutral, police will not escort strikebreakers, and a return to work was ordered for union members at 10 A.M. Theft of Daily Papers Traced to Pet Crow

Courier Cecil Plyler received complaints from a subscriber about missing papers. Investigation found the papers neatly arranged in the branches of a nearby tree where a neighbor's pet crow had carried them for several days.

Robbery Foiled at Williamson Service Station

John Booth, attendant at 801 Fillmore, repelled two hijackers with a tire tool after a blackjack blow. The pair fled south, abandoning a stolen 1934 Chevrolet found abandoned at the station. The car belonged to H. R. Vaughn of Tulsa. Police searched downtown Amarillo for the suspects.
