A dense list of local group meetings flows through Amarillo venues including the Herring Hotel and YWCA. Events span the Pilot Club and AAUW groups to PEO chapters, Kiwanis and Rebekah Lodge with start times from 6:30 PM to 8 PM and after, plus Bible classes and craft clubs at various homes and halls.
Alice Jane Bumpus celebrated her sixth birthday at 2114 Taylor with pink and white decorations, dolls and airplanes party favors, games, and refreshments. Guests included Mike Jobe, Pauline Holmes, Carol James, Carolyn Moore, Jerry Don Howard, Erline Holmes, Nancy James, David Moore, Nancy Hampton, Linda Johnson, Margaret Houston, Barbara Bumpus, and Mr. and Mrs. John Leland of Liberal, Kansas. Hostesses were Mrs. J. E. Moore, Mrs. D. B. James, and Daisy Bumpus. Home Interest Club meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday hosted by Mrs. G. E. Jones.
The Sun day Dispatch reports Britain weighing a scheme to bring Norway’s surplus hydro electric power to Scotland through 300 mile long undersea cables. British and Norwegian engineers are in talks in Norway to assess feasibility and cost.
Entry coupons for the Christmas Home Decorating Contest arrive at Globe News as Amarillo voters prepare for festive displays. Mrs. Hugh Tolleson chairs the judging, amid high interest despite shortages of electrical decorations. The Amarillo Garden Club and Globe News sponsor the event with prizes including $100 for top homes, $50 second prizes, and $10 to a second prize for front yard trees. Deadline is December 18.
War Assets Administration announces December 10 as the deadline for veterans to be certified for purchase of set aside items. No further set aside sales occur after February 28, 1947, when surplus property sales will be opened to an expanded program.
VAA officials announce veterans will buy property for their business or resale. Tom Nelson, director of the Veterans Information Center, will assist veterans in applying for set-aside purchase certificates.
