Threat of Railroad Strike Lifted After Wage Settlement

Washington December 214 The threat of a strike on the nation’s railroads was lifted after an emergency board chaired by Wayne Morse announced a wage and vacation settlement. The pact, awaiting Roosevelt’s review, could add 200 to 325 million dollars annually to carrier payrolls. Estimates suggested Amarillo could see about a 20 thousand dollar monthly payroll rise.

Amarillo Secures chlorine supply for water treatment

Amarillo reports no difficulty obtaining chlorine for its water system. The city uses about 200 pounds of pure liquid chlorine monthly, sourced from Corpus Christi. Jack Wyatt, chief chemist for the sanitation division, said the defense program has increased demand but Amarillo still gets all it needs.

FW Zephyr engineer Bill Elder will discuss safety on KGNC at 7 45 PM via transcription of an interview with John Ballard and Bob Watson. Last rites for W T Perry 61 year old building contractor who died at his home 1111 Garfield will be held tomorrow at 2 pm from Clarendon Methodist Church Rev J O Quattlebaum to conduct. Burial in Clarendon Cemetery under Griggs and Sons. He was a former Santa Fe employee and Lived 12 years in Amarillo with ties to Slate Masonic Lodge Odd Fellows and Methodist Church. Senator Burton Wheeler charged that the United States ships inferior fighting planes to China while sending the best to Britain and Russia. He said about 500 Americans had enlisted as pilots for the Chinese.
