Amarillo Grid Fans Pack Amarillo Stadium For Region Title

Football fans from east and south Panhandle gathered in Amarillo to watch Levelland meet Shamrock for the Region 1-A championship. The 2:30 p.m. kickoff followed a band parade and included Amarillo High School musicians. A 6:30 p.m. banquet at the high school cafeteria will honor visiting teams, with the Sandie Swingsters providing music. Plans for regional trophy presentation were discussed as Dimmitt Canadian Happy and New Deal remained in Region 1-B contention, with two Bi-District games deciding eliminations.

No leads in killing of Juan Arreguin with suspect details

Detectives questioned several Latin-Americans in connection with the fatal shooting of Juan Arreguin 55 at 1608 Cleveland last night. Police reported no custody or chief suspect yet, one witness saw a man flee in the dark after two to four shots, and a .38 caliber pistol is indicated. Arreguin died on scene near 7 pm. a bullet crossed to 1607 Arthur. Funeral arrangements are pending and a sister in Mexico survives.

Wife kills herself and three children in garage tragedy

Englewood New Jersey December report states 29 year old Mrs Margaret Thompson Oppenheimer and her children Ann Newton 4 Mary Alice 4 and William Jr 1 died from carbon monoxide in the family station wagon after the wife reportedly left a note. Husband William Oppenheimer plant manager at Archer Daniels Midland Vegetable Oils Co. Edgewater found bodies four hours after death. Police call it death by own action and triple murder.

US Weather Bureau reports windy warmer conditions across Amarillo and vicinity with a cool down expected Saturday. Daytime highs reach 74 today and 62 tomorrow, with a 61 degree reading and 40 degree low in the latest 24 hours. Panhandle section notes favorable outlook, with wind today and tomorrow and cooler Saturday. West section shows partly cloudy skies today tonight and Saturday with warmer conditions in the Panhandle. New Mexico forecast calls for fair southern areas, party cloudy north, with showers and snow flurries in the northwest today, cooler north Saturday.

Bombs Dropped Near Pyongyang. Anti Aircraft Open Fire

An unidentified plane dropped at least five bombs on the Pyongyang area at 1 45 AM today and American anti aircraft guns opened fire. Intelligence officers reported the possibility of enemy agents attempting to enter the city in small groups tonight.

Santa Chased From Pekin Parade by Snowball Teens

Santa Claus riding a red jeep in Pekin Illinois parade was targeted by about 40 junior high students throwing snowballs. Police could not stop the attack as sponsors and crowds watched. Santa finished the route but left early to clear snow from his whiskers.
