A super nova the 15th observed by humans has been photographed at Mt Wilson Observatory. It shines 40 000 times brighter than before and is 500 million times more luminous than the sun. Astronomers deem it probably the second largest ever seen and expect it to fade beyond Earth's sight. The explosion propels illuminated gas into space.
