Washington August 30 U P report says Joseph P Kennedy chairman of the U S Maritime Commission seeks new legislation modeled on the railway labor act to curb maritime strikes. Commission experts draft bills to be submitted to Congress with federal authority to embargo quickie and sit down actions and require advance strike notices. Kennedy may seek a federal commission with powers to mediate when a strike date is set.

Man Sought for Slaying of Two Is Killed by Pursuers
INDEPENDENCE Kansas August 30 A manhunt for the tenant farmer Prank Foster ended near here when state police trooper Carl Harder spotted him in a giant mulberry tree. A volley of gunfire followed and Foster tumbled dead. Foster was wanted for two killings. Earlier a Montgomery County undersheriff, Charles Casey, was wounded in a Friday night attempt to arrest him.

F B I Drives On Vice Raids After 137 Held In Mercer Jail

Post Office Clerks Open Convention in Fort Worth
Fort Worth August 30 Clerks of the U S post office service opened their 35th annual convention with a heavy four day program. About 1 000 delegates attended and were welcomed by city officials. Sheriff Returns Convict From Michigan to Texas
Sheriff Bill Adams traveled to Ionia Michigan to escort Bernard Fye back to Texas to serve a three year sentence for car theft. Legless Swimmer Finishes Six Day Albany Swim
Charles Zimmy a 46 year old legless swimmer rested in Harlem Hospital after a 147 hour endurance swim from Albany. He arrived under the George Washington Bridge at about 9 oclock last night after jumping from a dock in Albany last Monday. He said he lost about 30 pounds from his starting weight of 179 but suffered little from his time in the water. His legless condition aided buoyancy and sleep during the voyage.
