Guards Blamed as Prison Deaths Noted in Klondike Cells

Coroner Hersch blamed a mob of guards for prison deaths in Philadelphia County’s Klondike isolation cells after four convicts died from extreme heat. He named a higher up and said several guards would be arrested. Two guards identified as Francis Smith and Alfred W Brough faced material witness status in the case. A separate note reports Donald Wakefield Smith of Pennsylvania was reappointed to the National Labor Relations Board by President Roosevelt.
