Borger iron worker Sam L. Herring, 31, of Petroleum Iron Works Houston, was crushed when a tank section fell as he lay inside an oil tank being disassembled near Borger on the old Marland Tank farm. He died at a local hospital late Sunday.

Temporary offices for Amarillo Junior College president B F Masters opened at 207 High School building to handle enrollment for fall term. Expect about 100 students. courses include English, languages, mathematics, science, history, education, and teacher certificates. Masters cites strong local high school system and potential for an excellent start.
Lamesa Texas sheriffs report a midnight jail break at the Dawson County jail. Four prisoners escaped using saws, including Loyd Fulton, a black inmate, Robert Newton held on liquor charges, and Swayle Jones on cattle theft. All remain at large amid ongoing series of breaks at Dawson county jail.
The Rock Island railway announced the permanent appointment of J. K. Muse as agricultural agent for the Panhandle lines with Amarillo headquarters. Muse, ex assistant professor of animal husbandry at Panhandle A&M College Goodwell Oklahoma, begins work to promote agricultural development between Herington Kansas and Tucumcari New Mexico and along the Amarillo Liberal branch.
Fort Worth, Aug 26. J L Holden 34 of Fort Worth and Miss Nell Kines 18 of Dallas were injured when their plane crashed north of Birdville yesterday. Miss Kines remained unconscious and is sister of Mrs Holden. Holden piloted the craft and was described as an experienced pilot.
J F Atkinson of Pasadena is charged with aggravated assault resisting an officer abusive language and drunkenness after clashing with two motorcycle officers patrolling the Houston Galveston highway A bystander seized Officer Scott's gun and Atkinson allegedly struck him Mayor Conrad aided by officers and deputies sought help as the crowd roared while Atkinson surrendered bond set at 600 dollars
Judge Henry 8 Bishop instructed the grand jury to act independently and indict as they see fit. He urged investigation into lotteries, liquor law violations, and a peonage claim against E B Mauldin. Fort Worth oil man Fred W. Strang testified to the Senate patronage committee that fraud in receivership proceedings is common in Texas oil, with many cases leading to properties ending up with politicians. He cited that ninety percent of oil fraud fines go unpaid and described an affidavit by G. P. Edgell as typical of such cases.
The Graf Zeppelin commander may pass over the Texas Panhandle en route from El Paso to Kansas City. Amarillo News-Globe and Chamber of Commerce urge a flyover to view the government helium plant and gas field, requesting Eckener advise his probable Texas course.
