Belman Morin reports from Tokyo that the Korea war is two calendar months old, with American troops having fought longer for a single position in the last war. The North Koreans advanced rapidly, spreading over about 240 airline miles and roughly 400 road miles, dominating nearly all of Korea except the southeastern corner.
Borger police and Hutchinson County sheriffs hunted a “top professional” burglar who looted Coronado Drug Store at Tenth and Main. Loot ranged from $1,500 to $2,000 in cash and checks, plus narcotics worth hundreds. Entry used drilling to drop tumblers after knocking off the lock box knob. Authorities noted the crime occurred at Borger’s largest shopping center and that time of burglary remains unclear.
Raymondville Texas August 25 Dr C C Conley reports he killed a large rattlesnake while inspecting cattle on his ranch. He returned and cut the snake open finding 46 young rattlesnakes inside. Conley warned that the 46 would have been snapping another day or two.
East Germany's leadership meets in Berlin to study blocking West German rearmament. John J. McCloy warns Russia is readying a base for a future attack, while Grotewohl urges concrete decisions to split Germany, dismantle trade, and mobilize youth under Hitler-era officers.

President Truman ordered seizure of the nation's railroads at 3 PM Sunday Texas time. In Korea, U.S. and allied forces pushed 300 Communists off a strategic hill near Taegu as North Koreans reinforce for Pusan. The Hyonpung bridgehead faced heavy action with Keser's Second Division gaining ground toward the enemy supply route while air and artillery targets hit fuel plants and supply lines.
A 1-year-old woman, Margaret Alasha Choate, was struck and killed last night while crossing Highway 287 in Pleasant Valley near her River Drive home. Wayne Perry, 24, said heavy traffic and blinding lights prevented his noticing her until contact. Choate, native of Arkansas and Church of Christ member, died at St. Anthony's Hospital from chest injuries and concussion. Survivors include two sons, three daughters, and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are with N. S. Griggs & Sons.
D H Benton, 44, of 1422 Buchanan, was charged with assault with intent to murder after his wife Lillian Benton sustained scalp wounds from a wood club at their home. She is reported in good condition with no concussion. Benton was arrested at Northwest Texas Hospital and held on $1500 bond after waiving an examining trial. He told authorities I don’t remember it happening.
The Weather Bureau reports partly cloudy skies this afternoon tonight and Saturday with widely scattered thunder showers this afternoon and tonight. Not so warm today with highs near 93 and 94, a 100 degree reading for the 24 hour period ending 6 30 this morning. West Texas generally fair to today tonight and Saturday in the Panhandle. New Mexico partly cloudy today tonight and Saturday with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Bliss says he has no knowledge of the situation and will investigate. Vinson pledges inquiry as Sioux City reports list civilian pay rates and total plates this month surpassing twenty-two thousand dollars.
Amarillo city water department reported 19,600,000 gallons used in the 24 hours ending at 8 am, tying the all-time daily August record set on August 18, 1949. The figure marks the highest single day consumption in the period.
In Wewoka Oklahoma police debunked a tale of a 25 foot long snake captured by George W. Hall an exhibit operator from Tonkawa. Hall bought the reptile for 450 dollars in Wichita Kansas and faced no charges as long as no admission was charged. Hall and associate Will Adams were questioned while townspeople flocked to a temporary exhibit on We-woka’s main street.
