The Associated Press reports in Indianapolis that donations, from a child’s ten cents to a $100 check, support a permanent memorial to Gene Straton Porter at Limberlost Cabin in northern Indiana near Kendallville. The estate, valued at $50,000, is funded by her husband and private sources as a Women’s Federation of Clubs drive seeks 120 acres of wilderness to preserve the cabin where Porter wrote Laddie and other works.
