National Guardsmen from Amarillo faced a five hour delay after a Louisiana train switch mix up during three weeks of maneuvers. Headquarters company and H company were due home at 5 30 but may not arrive until about 11 tonight over the Fort Worth and Denver line. Traffic bottlenecks and limited rail facilities in piney woods slowed transport for about 50 000 men. Artillerymen and a medical detachment reached town yesterday afternoon and overnight.
In California the Lockheed interceptor and the Douglas B 19 bomber near completion after approvals by Gen. Henry Arnold and William Knudsen. The interceptor, capable of 460 mph, will test within days while the bomber, with 2000 hp engines and a 7000 mile range, could fly to Europe or Rio.

Mrs. Carroll Whiteside gave birth to a daughter at Northwest Texas Hospital last night. The newborn, named Carroll Lee land, weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces. The baby's grandmother is Mrs. Mary Leeland Smith of Amarillo and the other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Whiteside, also of Amarillo.
W. G. Stubblefield father of Chester Jack Stubblefield of the city’s electrical department has died at his Mokane Missouri home yesterday afternoon. Jack his wife and brother Robert left last night by automobile to attend the funeral services.
Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. has taken an office at Democratic campaign headquarters and is helping direct the third term drive among college students, it was disclosed.
Princeton statistician Dr John K Stewart explains that a single voter's impact on the electoral college varies greatly by state. He cites 1936 New Hampshire and Mississippi as examples, with Wyoming showing Willkie voters potentially wielding far greater influence than Roosevelt voters in Texas.
Dr. Stewart compares pledged and individual impact by state noting an Wyoming voter could control three thousandths of an electoral vote while a Texas voter would control eight hundred-thousandth, illustrating unequal weight of ballots across states.
