USES Aims to Balance Skilled Labor Supply in Amarillo
About 100 workers hold professional and managerial skills registered with the USES, but only 10 openings exist. Programs including job development, counseling, veteran placement, on the job training, and apprenticeships aim to narrow the supply demand gap. Unemployment in Amarillo stands at 1,400, up from last month due to Army Air Field layoffs and material shortages. In July 1,765 veterans contacted USES. 526 filed, 774 were referred, and 370 placed, with counseling provided to 76 veterans.

Labor Supply and Demand In Favorable Balance in Amarillo
The U S Employment Service reports Amarillo’s labor supply in favorable balance despite Army Air Field terminations. Employment is about 26 000 this month with a 600 worker surplus four months ahead. Demand for roughly 1 200 more workers is expected within four months, contingent on material shortages easing and matching skilled trades needs.
