Major Morgan leads force against heavy fire in South France
Major Carthel N. Morgan of Amarillo, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Morgan, commanded troops in South France with the 36th Division. After Italy’s Salerno landing in September, he fought along coastal roads facing fortified pillboxes and machine gun fire, earning wounds last December as his unit captured prisoners and advanced past strong points.
