Allied forces push inland from Cannes to Toulon front

Allied troops and airborne units pushed 8 miles inland from the beachheads along the Cannes to Toulon corridor within 24 hours. Allied Forces Landings in Southern France Face Strong Resistance

Allied forces completed landings on several southern France beaches but met stiff opposition at one sector that delayed disembarkation. Amarillo tenor joins Oklahoma! company as understudy lead

Mop-Up in Empoli Is Complete

Eighth Army troops have mopped up German resistance in Empoli on the Arno's south bank, 25 airline miles west of Florence, as the Italian front remains largely stable. Panhandle Sees General Showers with Light Rain

Rain fell generally across the Panhandle last night with Shamrock recording the heaviest amount at half an inch. The Weather Bureau in Amarillo measured .32 inches. Forecaster H. C. Winburn noted the rain did little to cool conditions and expected a drop from yesterday's 100 but high humidity will keep Amarillo hot. Additional totals included Adrian .10, Claude .24, Hereford .10, Pampa .04, Panhandle .14, Spearman .07.
