Hoovers birthday greetings aside, editorials stress arbitration of wage disputes at the Hoover Dam project. Wiley P. Pollard aged 62, noted Tex as peace officer and Potter County sheriff during the boom days from 1924 to 192? died at Northwest Texas Hospital. Funeral Friday at 10 at the family home with burial in Llano Cemetery. He leaves a widow, six children, two brothers, and a sister. Pollard began as deputy at 21, later jailer, constable, farm superintendent, and sheriff of Potter County for two terms.

G A Alex McKinney of 1402 Hughes Street hunted a bear on the Western slope near Delta Colorado with bare fists. He returned with a live cub named Quixy donated to the Amarillo Fair Park Zoo by the Belt interests. McKinney is Belt interests chief electrician. The bear cub now greets visitors as Quixy.
Farm Board officials led by Chairman Stone and Carl Williams urge southern governors to support a plan to destroy one third of the growing cotton. The board offers to withhold 3,000,000 bales from the market for one year if Southern planters destroy the crop under cultivation. Telegrams went to governors of fourteen cotton states seeking backing.
Rep Wright Patman of Texarkana telegraphs James C. Stone urging a special session to set minimum cotton at 20 cents a pound and wheat at 1 dollar a bushel. He questions Farm Board claims that plowing one third of cotton would raise prices and warns other cotton producing nations could be affected.
Reports from Washington say southern regions view the offer unfavorably as the farm board considers a drastic step. Cotton opened at 1.25 dollars higher per bale amid interest while officials await governors' replies to the proposal. The board met briefly to gauge reaction to the stabilization plan, promising to withhold 3,000,000 bales for a year if carried out.
Fort Worth & Denver City awards the grading and bridge contract for over 100 miles of the Childress Pampa extension at about 700000 dollars. Roberts Brothers of Chicago and Hamilton Gleason win jointly with 90 day decision on rails. 700 jobs to be filled in Childress, local labor preferred. project total around 4 million dollars and may spawn new towns.
In Nome Alaska August 13 lingering clouds and rain delayed Col Charles A Lindbergh and his wife from taking off for the Orient. Lindbergh said a Siberian coast flight may not occur this morning and the couple may wait for clearer skies before the 1067 mile crossing from Nome to Karaginsk over the Bering Sea.
The auditor's report received by the city commission shows total assets at 11 650 980.07 with a 997 232.59 rise from the previous year. Capital assets are 880 158.11 higher and current assets 116 474.48. bonded debt stands at 5 263 404.12 up 170 955.97. The year ends April 15 and the session reviewed the figures.
Cigarets valued at about $1,000 were taken overnight from the freighthouse of the Chicago Rock Island and Gulf Company. Sixteen cases disappeared after burglars pried open a north door with a crowbar and hid behind box cars. They later opened a south door and fled. Sheriff Thompson and deputies are pursuing definite clues for an arrest.
Huntsville Texas August 13 Joe Shield faces execution in the electric chair after a 15 day reprieve expired without a forgiveness letter from his children. He killed his wife in May 1930 at Brookesmith and earlier claimed the act was for his children's sake. He also killed his wife's parents but was not tried for those deaths.
Mrs Bernice McCurry in Council Bluffs found an old revolver while looking for accident policies in an old trunk. The gun fired injuring her finger as she reached for the policies. Hospital attendants found the insurance papers still clutched in her hand. The premiums were paid.
Former New Mexico Governor R C Dillon urges AML New Mexico to display Texas flags on windshields and wear them on coats for the Panhandle Caravan. The Amarillo event departs Thursday at 7 am, with hotel reservations through the chamber of commerce urged by Saturday night. Those buying First American tickets through the chamber will be guests at a matinee show Friday.
Rotarians and their wives plus house guests will attend a lawn party at Mr. and Mrs. Allen Early’s home at 2101 Harrison Street at 6:30 this evening. A buffet supper will be served and the program is being arranged by Carl Hare. The club’s regular luncheon at the Amarillo Hotel was held at noon for members unable to attend.
George "Big Chief" Musey a noted rum runner general and Galveston gang leader was captured by two Secret Service agents in Galveston early this morning. He was brought to the city around 1 30 A M after months of investigation.
Amarillo and vicinity pair tonight and Friday. West Texas fair and slightly warmer in the southeast portion tonight and Friday. New Mexico generally fair to night and Friday with little temperature change. Today’s extremes are 63 and 85 at 1 o clock.
A mystery woman linked to the torch murder of groom to be Eugene Farrar Jr. 21 who was killed before his wedding Irene Brewster 17 was to marry him. Two men jailed the day of Farrar’s murder were freed as police shifted theories and pursued new clues in the blaze near Dallas.
Bids for the electrical contract for Amarillo's new Paramount Publix theater will be opened at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Amarillo firms were low bidders for the general contract and plumbing and heating contracts. Figures of the bids were not announced and no awards had been made at noon today. The bids were opened yesterday.
The second annual Mid-Summer Horse Show at the Tri-State Fair grounds runs Friday and Saturday at 8 15 p.m. with up to 40 thoroughbreds rehearsed under strong lights. Tickets at City Drug Store and fair box office go on sale nightly. grandstand seats 50 cents, reserve 1, 1.50, and children 25 cents. Space provided for 50 cars for close-up viewing.
Senator Nye announced that the campaign funds committee would resume its inquiry into Bishop James Cannon Jr. use of political funds in 1928 this month. The DC Supreme Court denied Bishop Cannon’s attorneys’ bid to halt the proceedings. Nye coordinated with other committee members to set a definite resumption date.
In Laredo Texas a dispute over a check left cafe owner M G Menke 35 in critical condition from gunshot wounds. Frederico Cuellar 50 miles away in Zapata disappeared after the shooting as officers search for him following a dispute over the check between Cuellar and Menke and his brother.
