A $25,000 prize for the first nonstop Europe to Boston flight was proposed to the Boston chamber of commerce by Sheldon H. Fairbanks director of the Boston Aero Radio Show. George Wilson and F L Sprenkel of Bethune Colorado are recovering in Burlington after a plane piloted by George Bennett of Kansas City crashed nine miles west of Burlington. Bennett escaped serious injury and returned to Kansas City by train after the stall at about 200 feet.
The Ansonia, a freighter rumored to carry a half million dollars in contraband liquor, was seized off the Statue of Liberty after a chase by Staten Island police and Coast Guard units. Police arrested 34 men, seized seven trucks and three autos, and the Coast Guard held 26 prisoners aboard. The capture followed a prior seizure of the Sebastopol with an estimated $300,000 bootleg cargo.
In St Joseph Michigan on August 12 King Ben Purnell a former House of David leader now invalid testified in a bid to dissolve the colony. He confessed to taking multiple marriages including to his present wife Queen Mary and to Angeline Brown when he was 15, denying any forced acts or immoral conduct, and denying tunnels at Shiloh.
Charlie Chaplin told friends he will fight to the finish over his marriage with Lita Grey Chaplin. He said Lita has rejected a final peaceful settlement, risking his name and fortune as he travels to California to consult lawyers.

Two persons were killed and twenty five injured as a Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul mail train derailed after striking an open switch near Sturdevant six miles from Racine Wisconsin. The engineer L. H. Brock and fireman T. M. Weber, both of Milwaukee, died in the accident as seven cars left the track and two coaches overturned.

Boston August 12 The gloom of the death house eased as Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti learned their counsel had passed the last legal barrier for a new trial in the state supreme court. They were moved to fresh cells away from the death house while the full bench is summoned to hear the defense on remaining legal recourse. Sacco, on a long hunger strike, entered his twenty seventh day without food, while Vanzetti drank coffee yesterday.
Boston August 12 defense counsel prepared for a hearing before the full supreme court next Tuesday to seek relief for Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. They obtained judge Thayer's exceptions to deny rulings and set four appeals for the special session. Sacco remains fasting while Vanzetti ends his hunger strike with coffee and liquid food.
Dr. Be Fe Meadow, 67, was found dead in his Birmingham home early today with a knife wound to the heart. Officials cite ill health as a probable cause. The report notes his prominence as a physician and mentions the Amarillo hotel advertisement “Famous for Food” in the Panhandle.
