Two Inches Rain Floods Amarillo and Panhandle

A heavy overnight rain totaled about two inches in Amarillo with half an inch in ten minutes. Basements flooded and cars stalled as viaducts on Sixth Street and Tenth Street flooded. The Fort Worth and Denver railroad bridge at Tascosa was damaged, detouring trains via Rock Island, while rescue crews worked through the night. Reports reached railroad division offices.

Two Dole fliers killed in San Diego crash

A Tremaine monoplane from the Dole San Francisco Honolulu flight crashed on Point Loma near San Diego killing Lieuts George Covell and R W Wagener. A third man may have died. Lieut James Dyer and a passenger were among the crew. The aircraft took off from North Island Naval Air Station at 7 18 am and struck an embankment as it turned back. Firefighters and ambulances rushed to the scene as repairs were being prepared to gasoline lines. Covell piloted the plane drawn 18 in the Honolulu flight. the craft needed over a mile and a half to gain speed for takeoff.
