Soldiers Lay Friendly Siege to Amarillo

The 20th Infantry with 1850 soldiers arrived in Amarillo en route from Fort Warren Wyoming to Camp Bullis Texas and camped at the Tri-State Fair grounds until 5 tomorrow. Residents witnessed the march and equipment displays during visiting hours with many natives reconnecting with old friends and relatives.

Former Louisiana governor Richard Webster Leche and hotelman Seymour Weiss were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges tied to violation of the Connally hot oil act. The scheme allegedly involved $67,000 in payments and a pipeline from Rodessa to East Texas.

Free Vehicle Safety Checks Run In Polk Street Drive

W M King and his brother highway patrolmen held a no charge safety check in the 1190 block on Polk Street. Amarilloans lined the lane at noon to have brakes lights horns wind shield wipers and wheels inspected, a precaution claimed to save lives yearly on the highways.

Partly cloudy and cooler tonight with likely thunderstorms. Tuesday is partly cloudy with the north portion cooler and possible showers. In West Texas and New Mexico expect showers of thunderstorms east and north-central areas, with cooler conditions tonight and Tuesday. Former Publisher Dies At Kentucky Home

Urey Woodson aged 79, former Owensboro newspaper publisher and recent federal alien property custodian, died at his Kentucky home from heart disease. He had just returned from Washington to vote in the state Democratic primary last Saturday.

The Commerce Department announced on August 7 that Germany has created egg substitutes from fish and milk to cut its heavy egg imports.

Fox Drug No. 3 Store Sold to Warren Cretney

The Fox Drug Company sells its No. 3 Sixth Avenue store to Warren F. Cretney of Pampa. Cretney plans a 40 000 expansion with two more Oliver-Eakle spaces and remodeling to create the Cresney Drug Store within about 90 days. Dr. Montgomery and Speedy’s Cafe tenants will relocate. Cretney will keep current staff for now with possible later changes.

New WPA Cut Orders Target 18 Month Workers

Nazis Reject Polish Demand Over Danzig Customs
