Three women believed to be sisters from Lily Pennsylvania died today when their car at English Creek crossing near Pleasantville New Jersey was struck by a Reading Railroad train. Police found three driver’s licenses all in the Ryan name Agnes S Ryan Helen Catharine Ryan and Ursula B Ryan.
Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine near their prior endurance flight record of 420 hours 21 minutes as they refuel the Greater St Louis in St Louis. At 9 11 a m CST they had logged about 410 hours with no sign of fatigue or weakness.

In Houston on August 7 an unidentified hero saved Jewel Thornton from drowning after escort G. W. Coons from League City drowned while attempting to rescue her at Morgan's Point. A second young man swam to the distressed girl, reached shore, and vanished into the crowd.
Claudius H. Huston of Tennessee resigns today as chairman of the Republican National Committee. In a formal statement he says no man in political life has faced unwarranted attacks, and his withdrawal aims to allow the party to select a leader free from factional opposition. He notes the move will let him seek continued esteem and confidence from Republicans nationwide.
A. D. Payne told Amarillo investigators he prepared the dynamite used to kill his wife in a Line Avenue blast and planned a shotgun murder years earlier. He praised Verona Thompson and said he welcomed death, asking to see his brother before continuing to reveal details of the crime. The confession followed extended interrogation after his arrest in Amarillo.
Rainey Williams, 38, a Port Arthur Black man, is slated for execution by electrocution in Huntsville for a crime involving a Black woman Joyce Keller. Identified as the assailant after arrest, Williams was convicted July 2 after 14 minutes of deliberation, believed to be the first Black man electrocuted in Texas for such an incident. A separate report from Dallas notes W. R. Golden, 19, of Mesquite, fell thirty-five feet from a building under construction, suffering a skull fracture and possible serious injuries.
United Press reports a pivotal clash to decide the Chinese Civil War between the Northern Rebel Government at Peiping and the Nan king National Government. About 500,000 troops amassed in Shantung and Henan, with reinforcements en route as British and Japanese troops move toward the border.
Manuel Merrick, former Oklahoma representative from the Cherokee Strip, was arrested in St. Marys County Maryland by prohibition officers for operating a still. He was taken to Baltimore for hearings after being found at the boiler room of a mill. Herrick, 54, had lived modestly near California Maryland after a political career marked by eccentricities.
Washington August 7 The intra party feud over southern patronage flares anew as Republicans clash on national committee chairmanship. Homes A Mott and Warrington Taylor warn against outside interference, while Postmaster General Brown defends limited role and says his aim is better postal service, not patronage across the south.
The Associated Press reports 49 year old Clapp, former financial writer and Olympic hurdler, committed suicide by leaping from a Fifth Avenue hotel roof. A Yale alumnus and author, he had worked for Durant Motors and briefly for Hearst, leaving a note saying he was crazy and no one else to blame.
Ferdi nand Petros, 70, of Skidmore near Beeville Texas, died from injuries after being struck by a truck as he left Skidmore Cemetery where he had come to arrange his daughter Mrs A Ramsey's burial. Ramsey's funeral had been postponed. a double funeral will be held for Petros and his daughter. Ramsey died in Birmingham Alabama from ptomaine poisoning after visiting her father.
The Anti-Saloon League executives from across the United States met in Little Point Mish on the Lake Michigan shore. They forecast a strong Democratic slate and limited prospects for a Prohibition-friendly nominee in the next election. Leaders warned of Democratic activities ahead of the 1992 campaign while planning for wet and dry battles this fall.
Dallas Texas August police search for four others linked to a gang that duped a Dallas man out of 1000 dollars in a land deal near Merceden Hondo County They opened an office there hired a stenographer and prepared fake deeds The victim sent payment and found the real owner on site. One suspect was arrested and others are expected to be taken into custody.
Authorities in San Luis Potosi investigate the killing of Vidal Fernandes Herman administrator of Tepetate Hacienda. A Spaniard by birth his body bore about thirty knife and machete wounds. Military police have accused forty farmers of the crime.
Oklahoma City voters face a Democratic runoff between W. M. Morray and Frank Buttram as accusations flare. Morray touts a state constitution legacy and a gross income tax plan while Buttram attacks Morray as a fakir and recalls his early wealth, promising four years of honest government.
