Boston liquor trust is bared in federal indictments
Federal grand jury indictments target Mayor Lawrence F. Quigley of Chelsea and forty three others including ten policemen. The case describes a Chelsea liquor trust with manufacturers, transporters, wholesalers and bootleggers aided by police protection. Witnesses say seagoing liquor ships landed under police escort and profits went to the ring. Two days of detentions followed as agents gathered evidence for the federal grand jury. Witnesses note raids on independent dealers who refused protection payments. Also mentions Byron Gist and his wife departing for Memphis to visit Judge A Bryant.
