Topeka August 3. Members of the Topeka Country Club face a strike after caddies demand a 50 percent pay increase. Caddies say if the club can spend 5900 on a swimming pool it can raise wages, and announce picketing will be highly effective.
Panhandle farmers rejoice as last week’s rains boost growth across the region. Reports from Lubbock, Armstrong, Pampa, Hereford, Deaf Smith, and Wellington note promising conditions with 5 to 10 inches of rain on the South Plains and multiple heavy showers overall. Farmers anticipate record cotton and feed crops if dry weather follows, with maize and k fir showing strong prospects and cattle ranges improving. Continuation expected in the next page.

W F Crothers 31 year old Edwards county ranchman died in San Angelo from injuries from an accidental shooting earlier in the week. A stray bullet passed through both legs as he sat with feet hanging from a car and gangrene developed after an enforced amputation.
Vice-President Charles G. Dawes, coatless and collarless, answered reporters aboard his train in Omaha. When asked for a word for the press, Dawes took four puffs on his pipe and replied, Its too late.
News from August reports Mary Louise Browning once adopted by Edward Browning is returned by order of Queen County District Attorney Newcombe to her Astoria parents. She lied about her age and was chosen from thousands of applicants in a high society adoption that ended abruptly.
