Bodie Bates, a Black man accused of attempting to attack a 22 year old white woman, was seized by a white mob at the Calhoun County jail in Pittsboro and hanged from a Yalobusha River bridge. Sheriff Powell said Bates confessed to going to the woman's home after her alarm and neighbors roused.
Five criminally insane men fled Fulton State Hospital in Missouri on Saturday night. Edward Marcum Paul McCormick George Rogers William Smith and Oliver Hamilton abducted a keeper locked him in a cell then freed three companions and a sixth inmate Henry St Johns. The group changed to street clothes and headed south on foot prompting a wide manhunt by state patrol and local officers with no trace found near Fulton.

The Der Stahlhelm organ faces suspension and August Von Mackensen resigns, sparking fears the 700,000 member veterans union could be dissolved as Nazi control tightens.
Former Senator David A. Reed said he expects to appear on one more ballot as a delegate at large to the 1936 Republican national convention. He added he is not running for further offices and hopes this will be his last ballot appearance. Governor Allred said he would attend a rodeo at San Augustine on Saturday and would travel from Center by auto 25 miles to the event.
