On day three at the Berlin Olympics Jesse Owens moved within one title of a triple by winning the broad jump with 26 feet 5 21 64 inches and anchoring two record shattering days. Helen Stephens of Fulton Missouri won the women's 100 meters in 11.5 seconds and Johnny Woodruff of Pittsburgh took the 800 meters. Jadwiga Majowna of Poland and Gisela Mauerer Mayer of Germany set new discus marks as Robby Packard and Matthew Robinson advanced to semis in the 200 meters alongside Owens.
Hollywood August 4 William Powell the film star of Bayour Faire sold his famous mansion with its gadgets and promised to move out immediately upon sale completion. He searched the countryside for a suitable apartment to avoid hotel life after as an ex traveling trooper.
Charges of aggravated assault filed Monday against Jack and Loyd Phelps, Quality Bar employees, for a Sunday morning bar fight injuring two men and a woman. Karl Wescoat and M. F. Campbell injured. Wescoat’s ankle broken. Campbell beaten. Preliminary charges filed. brothers free on bonds. weapons alleged include ice tongs brass knuckles and rubber hose.
In Biloxi Mississippi on August 4 18 month old Donald Tilsley son of Edward Tilsley fell from a pier and drowned his body recovered shortly afterward. Hubert Cole for County Clerk.
Twenty five Pampa WPA workers quit their jobs on Monday in protest over wage differences with Amarillo WPA workers. District Supervisor William Hesken warned that discipline followed, with five ringleaders suspended for five days and some workers remaining away.
United Press reports three states Kansas Missouri and Virginia held primaries as preludes to the fall campaign. Kansas centered on Alf Landon and party slate while Democrats sought higher vote totals. Missouri voters settled the Pendergast faction and gubernatorial races. Virginia Democratic primary renominated Sen. Carter Glass.
Murder charges were filed against J. W. Blankenship after Charles N. Earp died from injuries allegedly caused by a bottle thrown at him as he entered Blankenship's White Deer cafe. Earp died at Pampa Hospital after the Thursday assault.
Governor Alf M. Landon stopped in Fortoria to visit editor William Allen White en route to Independence. A luncheon by the Women’s London Club and an outdoor supper by the men’s club awaited the Republican nominee. The Kansas primary would decide nominees for Senate Governor and seven House seats.
