The Recreation Study Council urges creation of a Municipal Recreation Department with a 1945 46 budget of 34000. A city wide program would use a professional staff, expand playfields, include a postwar indoor pool with public access, and pursue inter agency cooperation and future bond funding over 15 to 25 years. It calls for inclusive access to recreation for all citizens including the negro community.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Frazee of 2221 Tyler received a long distance call from their son Sergeant Charles C. Frazee in New York. He had just arrived from England where he served with the Eighth Air Force and expects to be home within two weeks on a 30 day furlough.
Wesley's, Amarillo's new women’s apparel shop at 513 Polk, opens tonight at 8 30 with Mrs Clairelle West and associates in charge. The remodeled store offers coats dresses suits millinery lingerie and accessories with Mrs Ethel McClure of Tulsa as lingerie manager. Mrs West, an Amarillo native, previously worked in Tulsa and returned four years ago. More than 1 000 000 soldiers have trained in Texas since Pearl Harbor.
After 22 months in the Pacific Seaman Bobby Williams son of Mr and Mrs CC Williams of 1118 Taylor Amarillo has six battle stars and is home now. He attended Amarillo High School before enlisting in June 1943 and received boat training at San Diego. His brother Clarence M Williams Jr currently serves in Manila and another sister Mrs J Robert Murphy resides in Amarillo. He will stay until August 15.
Soldiers at the USO Auditorium will enjoy James Craig and Dorothy Patrick in a Saturday night appearance. The feature for tomorrow adds appeal to the 7 o'clock show.
