Negro held in Weatherby murder near Clarendon Texas

A negro named James Rucker is under arrest in Shreveport for the June 24 Weatherby family killings near Clarendon Texas. He matches the description of Shelby Dozier, also wanted in the case, and was armed when seized. Rewards have been offered. fingerprints and photos will be sent to Clarendon for identification.

Veterans plan eyed for Amarillo hospital and office

Lewis P. Fields reports bright prospects for a United States veterans general hospital and a regional office to serve a large Southwest area centered on Amarillo. Window Smashing Theft At Pittman Jewelry Shop

Diamonds and watches valued at 4000 dollars were stolen from the Lewis N Pittman Jewelry store on Polk Street in the early morning fog. A one foot hole was knocked in the show window between 5 30 and 6 00 am while daylight was scarce. Police found the window intact at 6 39 am the same morning. The loot included a carat and a half diamond and ten to twelve smaller stones plus four or five watches. The weapon used was not recovered and no clues have been found.

Rear Admiral Bowles Dies in Massachusetts

Barnstable Mass August 3 Rear Admiral Francis T Bowles retired died today at his summer home. He chose a naval career over journalism, helped transform the wooden navy to steel and provided the first twin screws to an American war vessel. He retired in 1903 as head of the Fore River Ship Building corp and returned to government service in World War I aiding the bridge of boats to Europe.

Four Men Held Over Gainesville Store Looting

Borger Youth Kept Alive With Oxygen Pumps
