Commissioners OK Highway 66 By-Pass Plan
State Highway Commission proposal for a by pass routing of Highway 66 won approval from Potter County commissioners on Monday. The plan would keep the current route as a business path and create a new route via North West Eighth Avenue to the west city limits, then cross country to rejoin near Veterans Hospital, with an underpass near the US Helium Plant and elimination of the Bushland underpass. Minutes of the highway session spurred speculation as officials noted tentative surveys and a proposed separation west of the city limits between Avondale Street and Veterans Hospital.
