Amarillo Delays Film Censorship Board Plan
The Amarillo city commission rejected a proposal to form a board of censors to review motion pictures. City attorney Ben P. Manning said there is no legal authority to prevent showing a film unless it is indecent or obscene or prohibited by state law. He noted indecent material is punishable, but without state censorship power the panel cannot preemptively block screenings. The men's club from San Jacinto Methodist Church sponsored the request, which Mayor Gene Klein sent back for reconsideration.
