Hard Luck for Eddie Deus After Club Burnout

Eddie Deus, guitarist with the old Tom Chatfield orchestra taken over by Herman Waldman, faced a string of misfortunes. The group played one nighters then moved to Jackson Mississippi and the Maple Grove, where National Guardsmen closed the venue. Waldman’s band moved to Galveston, but a fire at Ship Ahoy Club wiped out about $4,000 in instruments and library arrangements, leaving Eddie and his crew jobless. Six former Chatfield players returned to California. Tommy to San Diego. Eddie stayed in town hoping for new work, possibly with Art Kassell in Dallas.
