The health unit will survey to round up bitten dogs for observation.
A suggested plan advises placing a small advertisement in the Transfer and Storage columns of the Globe-News to reach daily readers and fit a man for work. The aim is to attract labor by targeting classifieds readers.
A day of heavy rains swelled the Guadalupe River to a mile wide, marooning more than 100 motorists near Comfort as Kerr and Mason Counties flood. Police urged blankets and food drops, while authorities warned of possible floods along the South Canadian River and in the Oklahoma panhandle.
House economists launched a drive to cut state school heads salaries by ten percent aiming to reduce Texas A and M president T O Walton from 1250 dollars, UT president H Y Benedict from 10000 to 8000, and other heads accordingly. They argue living costs have fallen and current pay levels are too high while noting Walton is the first to be targeted.
City moves to build a reinforced concrete municipal pool at Section Park with preliminary work begun. The 45 by 105 foot pool will range 2 1/2 to 10 feet deep and include slides, a brick stucco surround, a promenade, and a 19 by 23 foot bandstand. The project costs about 16000 dollars and may later add a roof and heated water via heated coils connected to the incinerator. Operations details are pending.

Fifteen leading western railroads filed suit in federal court to block ICC rates on grain and grain products set to take effect June 1. The petition estimates average carrier loss at 10 percent with Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe alone forecasting 3 million dollars and Chicago Rock Island and Pacific 2 million. Major reductions target the Southwest and Far West. Plaintiffs include Southern Pacific St Louis San Francisco Missouri Kansas Texas Missouri Pacific Milwaukee Union Pacific Great Northern Northern Pacific Burlington Wabash Great Western Chicago and Alton and Chicago and Northwestern.

The Panhandle Laundry at 201 Pierce Street remains unconnected as regulators for large meters were late. City Engineer E N Stanley said shipment of the required meters is due soon. Manager George Lindsay, who favors the city gas plan, has not ordered current connection and waits for full system installation.
The Panhandle Association of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs selected Amarillo as the 1932 convention city during the 1931 Borger meeting. Elected officials include H. Pronto of Pampa as president, George W. Sikes of Borger as first vice president, Lizzie Walker of Pampa as second vice president and Rebekah head, F. E. Walker of Amarillo as secretary treasurer, and O. F. Glasscock of Shamrock as chaplain.
The 1930 Distribution Census reports Amarillo with 595 retail stores and 30,095,199 in annual sales for 1929. Full-time payroll of 3,258,998 supports 2,326 workers. 449 independents and 52 local chains dominate, with automotive and food groups leading sales.
Amarillo police report conflicting accounts as Frank Roddy believed captured after a suspected filling-station burglary near Roswell. Horace Wells is jailed in Lubbock and A B Celey held in Albuquerque, with Celey previously jailed in 1929 and 1927 on theft and burglary charges.
In Chicago, Mrs. Ralph Garrison of Kalamazoo and J. H. Hartung of Dayton drank poison at a downtown hotel room while watching. Detectives suspect Hartung lured Mrs. Garrison to reconcile with her husband, who had come with another Kalamazoo woman, Mrs. Jones, to collect belongings. The two deaths followed a final drink.
One hundred airplanes from the United States will join 35 events at the International Exposition in Mexico City May 15 to 22. A chartered News-Globe train will carry 85 of 125 required travelers. cost is 150 per person covering rail, meals, tips, and a Mexico City sight-seeing trip. Reservations close May 10. train departs Amarillo May 16 and returns May 22.
Two pilots Sam Taylor and Allen McDiarmid were injured when a National Air Transport trimotor forced landed five miles north of Elyria Ohio after two engines failed. The pilots ensured passengers wore life belts before the crash in a barn yard.
