City commission meets to appoint seven directors to the Board of City Development for two year terms. Bids open on West Sixth street tourist camp site improvements estimated at $6000. City manager Jeff Bartlett to present routine matters.
Police campaign against speeding runs unabated with twelve motorists booked yesterday and today. Seven of them were caught on West Sixth street, the city’s so called speedway. Fourteen motorists, some arrested over the weekend, were fined by Judge A. L. Anderson in police court yesterday, with five more fined this morning. Chief A. C. Cain vowed the drive will continue until the speed mania ends.
Limberton New York April 29 a collie alerted Leslie Morrison by tugging bedclothes as a farmhouse fire broke out Morrison his wife and cousin James Morrison carried five children ages three to nine to safety two children were overcome by smoke the dog perished saving eight lives
In Asheville North Carolina on April 29 Harry M Daugherty said the arrest of M B Daugherty in Ohio by a Senate deputy sergeant at arms was an additional small personal insult aimed at affecting the vote on delegates to the Republican national convention.
The body of C. C. Cunningham Amarillo florist who died Saturday night will be buried in Comanche his old hometown this afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Blackburn Funeral home Sunday afternoon with Rev R Thomson in charge assisted by Rev R F Jenkins. The body was accompanied to Comanche by Mrs Cunningham and other relatives.
In Stillwater Oklahoma a tornado demolished homes in In galle early today killing Mrs Roy Pyle 30 and injuring her husband and Mrs J F Bailey. The storm destroyed more than 20 buildings and about 15 oil derricks in the area.
In Chicago at the Electrical Workers union hall No 134 two men died and seven were wounded amid a factional dispute. Samuel Bills business agent for the Ice Cream Wagon Drivers union was killed and Robert Devere fatally wounded. The hall was led by Michael Boyle Umbrella Mike Boyle. Bills had ordered a strike to start Thursday.
Thirty bodies were recovered by rescue workers in the Benwood mill mine of Wheeling Steel after a blast and fire. Eighty one miners remained entombed as investigators from the US Bureau of Mines directed the search. Identification was slow and families waited at the mine entrances in the rain.
New York April 29. Experts warn only prompt adoption of the reparations commission plan can save Europe from chaos. Dawes Owen L. Young and Henry H. Robinson say the plan must be acted on quickly as the Reichstag would need to pass essential legislation for its operation.
In Mexico City on April 29 authorities report that talks between American bankers and Finance Minister Pani over a $15 million loan have collapsed. The bankers allegedly refused oil export tax guarantees, a claim the finance ministry would not confirm.

A passenger train on the Mexicano railway, carrying 50 passengers, faced a rebel fusillade about 30 miles from Vera Cruz. The engineer, putting the train in full steam, forced through the attack and saved the train with no injuries among passengers who were panic stricken.
The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled against the Knights of Pythias in a suit to challenge the order to raise life insurance premiums. The decision came after a lawsuit filed to test the rights of the fraternal order to increase premiums.
President Coolidge restates his April 6 message to congress denying attempts to hand Muscle Shoals to Henry Ford. He notes the Miller telegraph is not in his view the source of any proposed sale and reiterates opposition to disposal outside a joint congressional committee to negotiate offers. The Senate committee then hears conservation views from Gov. Gifford Pinchot.
Governor Pinchot told the Senate agriculture committee that Henry Ford's bid to develop Muscle Shoals would cripple the South's power situation and create an industrial center, urging the project be viewed for social value rather than power output and arguing the contract lacks penalties or guarantees.
James Martin Miller rejects repudiation and says his telegram quoting President Coolidge about Muscle Shoals delivery to Henry Ford was accurate. The issue follows a telegram to the Dearborn Independent that sparked presidential disavowal.
The revolutionists have completed their occupation of Tegucigalpa and Rear Admiral Dayton recommends withdrawing the American landing party. Minister Morales reports little disorder, all foreigners are safe, and the de facto forces have fled the city.

The reparation commission met in Paris to review French British Belgian and Italian replies on experts reports. It approved the German delegates list for Dawes plan bodies and began carrying out experts recommendations. The commission also received Japanese and Serbian replies to the findings.

Dalhart Texas April 29 J H Austin unloaded a car with 46 head standard bred Jersey cows shipped from Austin this morning. The herd will be distributed among local farmers and citizens. This marks the third Jersey car sent to Dalhart this year by Mr. Austin.

London reports a note from the Irish Free State demanding immediate boundary commission action. Dublin correspondents warn civil war possible if the commission awards nationalist northern areas, while refusal or denial could trigger denunciation of the Anglo Irish treaty and move toward severance from Britain.

Chicago April 29 Mrs Frederick Edey New York chairman credentials committee National Council of Girl Scouts in session here declares the modern flapper far ahead of her Victorian sister describing the 10924 girl as reliable energetic and able to grow spiritually. Telegram from President and Mrs Coolidge congratulates the council on its results.
In Omaha on April 28 14 year old Robert Effenbarger died after 13 year old Aileen Ralph stabbed him with a hatpin. She said boys had been harassing girls with pin tipped sticks and was held by juvenile authorities.
Warren T. McCray resigned as governor of Indiana after a federal conviction for mail fraud. Emmett F. Branch becomes governor effective 1 p.m. tomorrow. McCray will not appeal and faces a federal prison sentence, likely at Atlanta, after today’s proceeding.
Preparations are near completion for the Dallas Boosters visit on May 6 led by the Board of City Development. The program includes a parade reception and dance, with the Red Hussar band from Dallas to perform at the Municipal Auditorium alongside motion pictures showing Dallas progress. The booster train arrives at 6 45 o clock next Tuesday night.

Washington April 29 The senate approved committee amendments to the revenue bill ordering a 10 percent tax on radio sets and reducing levies on automobile trucks tires and accessories.
London April 29 Chancellor of the exchequer Snowden urged abolishing the McKenna duties in his budget speech. The duties expire May 1 but three months of protection remains, delaying practical expiration to August 1. No changes to income tax or super tax were proposed.
Subpoenas for former Federal Judge K. M. Landis Roscoe Andrews and former Judge Charles Williams to appear before the senate committee probing former Attorney General Daugherty were received and served today by U S Marshal Levy in Chicago.

President Coolidge pressed his compromise plan on the Japanese exclusion issue and met again with congressional leaders. He conferred with Senator Reed of Pennsylvania, one of the Senate conferees, to advance the proposal.
The House Judiciary subcommittee will investigate grounds for impeaching Federal Judge William B. Baker of the Northern West Virginia district. The inquiry follows a request from District Attorney T. A. Brown of that district.
