Sergeant R. A. Jackson, Amarillo recruiting officer, will broadcast over KGNC for five minutes every Tuesday at 5 10 PM. He says hundreds of families in Amarillo and nearby areas have sons or friends in the U S Army and seek insight into current army activities and operations.
The city commission holds its first regular meeting of the new two year term at 7 30 tonight after the oath of office. A special meeting followed the oath. minor business and petitions to pave streets under WPA setup were the only items planned.
The House Military Affairs Committee after long debate approved a revised Hill-Sheppard Bill to remove profits from war. The article notes three-fifths of U S cotton used for clothing and household goods, with the other two-fifths used by industry.
The Texas House defeated a proposed constitutional amendment 89 to 36 that would have allowed counties and home rule cities to place appointive employees under civil service. James Madison Wise a former Amarillo Panhandle rancher died suddenly at 7:25 this morning at his Tucumcari New Mexico home. Born January 17 1866 in Denton County he moved west in the 1880s married Elizabeth Burnham in 1895 filed a Quay County ranch claim in 1901 and died leaving a widow an adopted daughter Florence a sister Dolly Johnson and two brothers W R Wise and George Wise. Funeral arrangements were to be made this afternoon.
D L Eubanks, 20, Amarillo, faces theft from person charges after allegedly grabbing a sucker’s stake during an Army game con. He is jailed in Potter County on $750 bond. Complainant Percy Hamilton of Bastrop Louisiana says he lost $40. Nelson Ault of South Bend Indiana witnessed the scene.
In Rome on April 27 Mussolini became a member of the German air corps as Hermann Goering presented him with an honorary insignia and a certificate of competence. The German air minister, visiting, likely plans Mussolini’s trip to meet Adolf Hitler.
KGNC air list shows Tuesday program lineup from 3:00 to 11:00 PM with NBC features and local acts including Nellie Revell Young Hickory Don Winslow of the Navy and The Three X Sisters. Wednesday morning and afternoon segments run from 6:00 AM through 1:50 PM with News Music and farm reports.
