Alleys overflow with garbage attract dogs and tramps while wind carries trash from boxes. merchants will help by avoiding sweeping debris into streets as Lions Club and Amarillo Kiwanis Club join forces to improve the city.
Roy Nathaniel Saunders, 35, died this morning at 4 30 at Northwest Texas Hospital. He worked for Shell Oil Company in Monahans, Texas. Survived by wife Ethel Saunders, two sisters Mrs. W B Saunders and Mrs. Florence Thompson, and two brothers Graham and Claude Saunders, all of Amarillo. Boxwell Brothers will transport the body to Childress for services at Chil King Memorial Methodist Church with Rev. J C C Giffin officiating. Pallbearers listed. Burial in Childress Cemetery.
Olney reports Sonny Lamb 26 escaped convict who pried open a jail window in Tarrant County and fled through North Texas. Officers traced his movements as he evaded capture, while Lamb had been held for burglary charges and was en route to Hutchinson County for trial.

Harry Steinborn and his wife Sadie Steinborn are to be taken to Salt Lake City to face charges of unlawfully receiving and concealing 200 wool blankets alleged to be U S army property. They were arrested at 2110 Ong Street last Friday night by local officers and a Justice Department team. Steinborn is jailed in Potter County. Mrs. Steinborn posted a 2500 bond before the U S Commissioner Saturday afternoon.
New York April 26 U P Lincoln Perry known as Stepin Fetchit, negro comedian, was in critical condition from injuries after an automobile accident. A tire blew out causing the car to crash into an el pillar. Perry's skull was fractured. He created the Lazybones character in his film career.
Milburn Easum, exalted ruler of the Amarillo lodge, will preside as many new members are being taken into the Elks Lodge at initiations tonight. A supper will be served at the Elks Home located at Fifth and Fillmore Street, secretary Mark Perry announced.
A spring storm blanketed the Dakotas western Minnesota and northern Iowa with up to 18 inches of snow. Communication companies expect thousands of dollars in damage while farmers say the storm will delay planting but suppress an early grasshopper plague.

Washington April 26 Republican Chairman John D. Hamilton will break his silence with four radio speeches over the next four weeks. He says he has listened widely and sees shifting political allegiances and a changing national landscape. He intends to re-examine the old lines and discuss the GOP stance in the new setup.
Mary Lou Harris an 11 year old girl from Chico dies in Fort Worth hospital after more than twenty blood transfusions over the year failed to halt a rare blood disorder that caused his red blood cells to disintegrate. Friends mourn her loss in Fort Worth.
Dalhart April 26 Local officers probe the deaths of Grace Rogers 35 and her husband after a Saturday night confrontation. Funeral services set for Grace Rogers tomorrow. Rev Tom Johnston will conduct. Grace will be buried in the same cemetery in a separate plot. Police pursue clues including a $40 registered mail receipt sent March 4 from Amarillo. Rogers 38 had a suspended federal bootlegging sentence.
A fire started by a hot water heater early this morning caused considerable damage to the home at 1511 West Nineteenth Avenue. The dwelling had just been occupied by Mr and Mrs Vernon Shell. Assistant fire chief Dewey Morris said there was some roof damage as the department answered the 8 03 alarm.
