The House voted 297 to 69 to adopt a proposed child labor amendment empowering Congress to regulate or forbid labor by those under 18. An age limit of 16 was rejected. the measure moves to the Senate for final approval.
P H Landergin last week shipped fifty five cars of four year old steers to Kansas pastures. About three quarters of the steers have been on full feed all winter while the remainder are just off the range. Landergin expects to run the cattle in Kansas until early fall markets. The shipment was one of the largest from the Panhandle this spring.
Washington April 26 the prosecution scored its first in the senate trial of Senator Wheeler of Montana Henry G Glosser of Great Falls testified he was present at a January 1922 conversation with Wheeler and Gordon Campbell in which Wheeler left the impression his influence as a senator would secure action on Campbell s cases before the interior department Glosser said Wheeler indicated he would act for Campbell in large part cases before state courts only prior witnesses testified to that limit
Prohibition officers halted a gang of rum runners at an ocean landing near Half Moon Bay California and arrested four men. They seized liquor valued around 100000 dollars after a running gun battle. two cars containing additional smugglers escaped.
Governor Neff issued a proclamation endorsing National Music Week in Texas at the request of C. M. Tremaine and Mrs. A. L. Harner. Music Week opens May 4. The governor closed with a quip about writing songs and laws.

Washington April 26 Mal Daugherty banker of Washington Courthouse Ohio brother of the former attorney general will answer before the senate bar next week for contempt of its justice department investigating committee. Arrest and removal to Washington were ordered by the senate after a resolution cited him for twice refusing subpoenas. A deputy sergeant at arms will serve the warrant over the weekend and Daugherty may seek habeas corpus to challenge the senate's power to compel testimony.

Of the land recovered 80 226 acres are in Hartley county reaching to the Fort Worth and Denver near Channing and 27 613 acres in northern Dallam county.
